Hello Again S-heads!
Well, it sounds like I'm not the only one that has battled LMS*. (Not to be
confused with PMS.)
(* Lazy Modeler Syndrome)
Thanks for the many good ideas and encouragement received onlist and off.
Fellow Rails:
Those of you that work for a railroad know that it is taxing work. You
gotta' have it in your blood to do it... and even then you have times that
you ask yourself "WHY again am I doing this?????" i.e. Yester "day" started
before 7 PM and finished up after 7 AM. Almost got 6 hours sleep before RR
related phone calls started! In the course of the night, hauled empties
over, pulled back loads, blew an OT 150 fuse (which requires locomotive
shut-down to replace), etc, etc. Long and tiring night. Note to all
modelers/rail enthusiasts: Unless you positively, absolutely, KNOW that
railroading is in your blood: AVOID working in it. Those of us that do have
it in our blood, know what it's like, but we also know that it's all we
really want to do for a living.
Clubs/Round Robins:
Alas. No truly active modelers in my region. I have a very close model RR
friend that's old enough to be my dad that I've known since I was a lad (met
him in '69)... and he is into 3 rail. He is not getting younger (mid 70s
now). Couple years ago, I helped him build what 3R layout he has (decidated
room about 19' x 22' ?) and thoroughly enjoy our times together. I do note
that when I have to time to stop by to see David and spend some time
relaxing with him up in the "Layout Room"... I typically come away thinking
how I would like to get something up and going for myself. I can see how a
club or round robin could be advantageous to a guy's modeling "oomph".
To my fellow modelers with LMS:
You raise some good points. I need to relax and quit over-analyzing me and
my "hobby". I sometimes berate myself for spending sizable chunks of $$ for
hobby stuff... only to watch it gather dust. Maybe I shouldn't get so
"concerned" and just let things happen. If I DO model... wow! Look at me!!
If not... oh well. I do know that I REALLY like the size of S scale, and IF
I'm going to piddle with scale model trains, then this is the size for me.
How true were the words in the post about this hobby being about dreams. I
can't remember which of my model railroad friends once said something to the
effect of "some of the biggest fun of model railroading is in the dreaming".
Good thinking!
Perhaps I need to sit down and determine what supplies I'm lacking in order
to get a few things accomplished that would allow me to put down a bit of
track and get SOMETHING running, even if only a small switch area of the
proposed layout? (Great idea... think I'll do that right after I surf a bit
more. <g> )
So, thanks for your indulgence, words of wisdom, and the shared wit. I
reckon' I ought to just allow myself to enjoy whatever it is I enjoy about
the hobby and quit being so silly, eh?
