At about that time on the Sn3 Yahoo list there was talk of train smells. I
thought of making a votive-sized candle, mixing ground up soft coal (depending
on your area) with the wax and burning the candle in the train room.

I never tried it - partly because I don't know where to get any coal and partly
because I realized the constant odor inside a closed train room would soon be
unpleasant if not over-powering.

It still has a certain appeal.

Actually John, there was a company that advertised in MR a few years
back that did sell Railroad smells--I think they were out of Minneapolis
Minn. Actually what would be better than smelling just a little cresote
near the rail yards, maybe along with some coal oil smells. Then when
you visitors moved over to Bill Banta's bakery smelling some fresh
bread! Heck it almost 6 pm--I'm going home to eat!
