Excellent point Don, my permanent home layout ranges from 1945 to 1959
and has models from four major railroads that interchange with each
other. On the other hand (being a liberal) I generally only run
contemporary models (80's and up) when we do a modular setup. So I can
run my UP SD-60 (which has recently come out of trademark banishment)
with double stacks, many Down tank cars, some very crusty PS-2's, ACF
hoppers, and DesPlains modern boxcars. You might ask what about the
60's to the 80's, well to borrow a title from Jimi Hendrix--Purple Haze
! Isn't life grand in S scale!

And speaking of modular setups, the Houston S Gaugers will be in the
great port city of Galveston on May 19th and 20th for a small train
show. We will be setup in the old ATSF passenger station in the
historic strand area of town. The station has been turned into a museum
of transportation. So come on down and bring some trains to run.

After that we will be setting up a smaller modular setup at Memorial
City Mall again for the Father's Day weekend. Again the invitation
stands! My wife asked me once if I really liked spending that
particular weekend with the guys setting up the modules and then tearing
them down on my 'special day'. So I replied that yes I was conflicted
with having to work that hard, so to make things better the women and
kids who appreciate the dad's should do the setup and
breakdown--sometimes they just don't get the humor!
