  I use the same method of uncoupling and it works fine. I did extend the 
uncoupling area by using two craft magnets on each side.

Bill:

They are just standard garden variety craft magnets from a craft
store. I mount them on a thin magnetic strip under the ties and space
them with a piece of styrene strip.

The switches are Atlas Customline #6's. I think there's a photo of one
in the files section, as well.
