Hi All --
John has said a mouthful. ALL hobbies are benefitting and changing because
of modern technologies and Chinese / Oriental labor rates. The trouble for
model railroading is that we are now into, at least, our second generation
of folks that have NOT been model railroaders. It is very hard to get
young kids established as hobbiests, especially as model train types, when
the parents don't see the need, or have the interest or skills to bring the
child along in the hobby. Like I said in an earlier note: ALL two year old
boys are train nuts. It's just trying to get the parents to spend the time
and money to support that initial interest.that is so hard. Other than
mentoring your neighborhood boys, I have no magic bullet...
Have fun!

For Christmas, this past year, I gave my grandkids an American Models
diesel, about 10 cars, enough track to make a fairly good size
circle, and a power supply. The set still sits in it's original box,
unopened.
Part of the problem getting youngsters, or for that matter, young
adults, interested in model railroading, is that they have no idea,
or conception, of how important, and dynamic, the railroads were, in
making the industrial revolution possible.
