Folks,
I have a pair of the ASG turnouts. The AM hirail and Flyer trucks themselves DO
NOT seem to have a problem thru the turnouts. My scale wheel sets did have a
problem until I adjusted the turnout side of the frog point with a few swipes
of a fine file. Only the turnout side of the point needs this. The problem is
NOT in the design, but the looseness that the Chinese put in the pivot point
hole. I have no sliders so I can NOT speak to that, but I make sure ALL my
wheel sets are NASG gauged BEFORE using.
I saw the pilot approved model and it worked fine with scale wheel sets, but it
seemed to get screwed up in production due to the pivot hole looseness. There
should be NO play is the hole, just enough clearance to pivot!
I would still recommend them and I plan to get more as funds allow. I have a
322 Hudson with all scale wheels except the drivers and I want to run it. I was
able to get it thru Old Pullman #6's since the guy that physically did the
conversion was able to thin down the drivers abit but not really enough.
Though the height of the ASG track is why too tall for scalers at code .172,
the makeup of the composition of the track and the included weathering could be
okay for SOME hirailers that would like to run both.
My railroad is in a Northeast basement and even though I have a dehumidifier
(on its last legs), this track does NOT loose electrical contact. I do not have
to keep cleaning it to run trains and I am running with a NorthCoast
Engineering DCC system
