Good weekend folks,
Colin, I saw your question about a SOO SW-1, I do not have one but I
live on the SOO Line/CP Rail west of Minneapolis. I would be happy
to share whatever I know on the SOO, if you are going to railfan the
SOO, consider this a base to do that. Our guest room opens up on a
deck where you can watch the SOO go by on a regular basis, as you go
east, Chuck Porter is outside of Milwaukee and I am sure he would
share all of the good railfan spots there.
Another point you might find interesting is that Des Plaines Hobbies
has produced a SOO Line wood caboose kit. The kit is by Mullet
River, you can see the O Scale version on the Mullet River website
mulletrivermodelworks.com Ron has not shared the kit with the world,
he likes to keep things like this in the backroom of the store to
assure they are properly aged.
On the Railroad, the last of the Sedum forest has been planted, I
used some new strategies (for me), I am happy with the results and
will share them in the From the Workshop pieces we send into the
GAugian. Most of the trees went into scenes that frame the trains, a
few to enhance view blocks from scene to scene. I like the look, I
would guess just under 2000 more and I would have the scenes pretty
complete.
This week I travel to the east coast and by good luck I will just
happen to be in New Jersey for the S Helper Service open house. Just
as amazing, Steve Doyle and Tom Lennon will be in the Cliffwood area
on Friday also. If you are going to the open house and want a fair
chance at Robin's famous scratch and dent table, don't be late, Steve
Doyle has a Visa card and is not afraid to use it. Rumors that the
Joe McDoke's character was inspired by Steve are not true Joe had
much more restraint. I also hear that Ron Sebastion and Sam McCoy
may be in the area on Friday. Perhaps Ron will have a SOO Line
caboose kit for me? Hey, don't snicker. It could happen. Sam, I
will bring a MN&S boxcar for you to look at.
It will be great to see all the east coast folks, I hope they have
nice weather and a good turnout. OOPS, I should not have used that
word should I?
