Subject: {S-Scale List} Re: New Manufacturers

What I have seen from the named O Scale manufacturers, other than Weaver's
brass, is no better than run of the mill HO. If that's all I'm going to get,
why bother to model S Scale? To me, one of the advantages of S is being able
to get details in essentially scale size that are not invisible -- or just
plain absent.

Certainly there are O Scale manufacturers whose products make full use of
that scale's size, but they are few and far between -- or have sold out to
Atlas.

I say this as one of those who was a prototype for the old Thumbz comics in
the NMRA Bulletin, and who needs all the help he can get from the manufacturers
in S Scale.

By the way, I echo that listing for a NYC 4-6-0. If I were held down and
threatened with a wet noodle to reveal my preference, I would even mention
ex-Canada Southern #1290 would suit me just fine. But, since you ladies and
gentleman are too polite to resort to such violence, my personal choice will
forever remain a secret.

By the way, if anybody cares, I've been working my eight
Shinohara #8s and one #6 continuously on my switching layout, daily, since
February 1998 and they still run just ducky, thank you. Straight DC, mind you.
 Four electric blocks.

  regards ... pqr
