Friends,
We have talked about our hobby and specifically S dying out with our
generation. Of course they're are many signs of this.
However, I recently downloaded the San Jacinto Model RR club's/NMRA
November open house tour. In the Houston area there will be 80+ layouts
open, by far a new record. The area covered is from College Station to
the North, Galveston to the South and Beaumont to the East (several
hundred square miles), but the majority are within the metro area.
S will be represented by two Sn3 layouts and my standard gauge, "Great
Plains Northern Terminal".
A little background: the San Jacinto Club is a 'all scales' social club
that sponsors a yearly train show and the November open house tours.
When I got listed on the tour it covered 4 weekends with about 5-7
layouts per weekend. Now it's been extended beyond the month and
consists of as many as 15 layouts per weekend. I will be open November
10-11 for all visitors.
I'm putting in the final wiring on a six track storage yard that is
reached via a removable bridge leading to a storage room. Progress has
been somewhat slow because of other multiple projects but I hope to ease
a switcher into the yard shortly. After that I need to get busy with a
couple of small buildings. I have put off building a large roundhouse
till after this show as I figure it will take months to complete.
