Peter, Thank you for writing. Yes I did consider using caulk for leveling off the yard. As a matter of fact there are some sections I had previously filled with caulk years ago. However, even after years of weekend warrior home remodeling, caulk and I have yet to make friends. I just can't seem to get it to go where I want without a big mess everywhere. Further, Bondo has a definite and faster cure time then caulk. I am really not concerned with it cracking in this application.
In younger days I spent lots of time slinging and sanding Bondo. When you like 1960s Mustangs there was a lot of backyard auto body rust repair. The Mustang on the Bondo can was ironically very similar to my 1966 convertible I had for over 10 years.
