I visited Mitchell's during the 1993 NMRA convention. At that time it was
quite impressive. I'm sorry to hear it isn't what it was. There's still Tommy
Gilbert's in Gettysburg however. One of the last all scales hobby shops I
frequent has just closed its doors. I'm afraid it's an irreversible trend.
I'm also somewhat disappointed to find that many of the items I've been looking
at in S as well as O are well advertised but often unavailable. When something
comes out it has to be acquired quickly or the opportunity is lost. There are
a lot of neat things becoming available. I guess I'll just have to plan ahead
a little better. RTR doesn't always mean ready-to-buy.

There's not much S for sale on eBay is there?

  Bob,

We have had layout tours in my area that start just after Halloween and run
into early December for over 25 years. They are all scales and cover about a
60 mile radius of Philadelphia north to south. Some are during the week, but
most are on the weekends especially as you get closer to Christmas. There
may be 100 participants in this as well. It varies from year to year. It was
organized by Mitchell's in Wilmington Delaware, which is mostly a craft
store but had a killer train section with more brass then I have ever seen
in one place. They are still in business but in a slightly smaller store.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
