It was designed to accept a regauged Tyco/Mantua power truck. This was, at
best, a trainset-quality mechanism. I wouldn't recommend using one even if
you could find it. The wheelbase of the supplied sideframes is overly long
in order to accommodate this truck.

I originally powered the unit as instructed, and was not happy with the
results. I found that a much better option is to convert HO scale 2-axle
trucks to S, and shorten the sideframes to match. I did this using an old
Atlas/Roco EMD drive- the older Athearn design was harder to adapt. The
contemporary Athearn "blue box" truck with inside bearings is much easier
to adapt to S scale.
