Hi guys,
The recent discussions about the Kadee 802/808's, the Kadee "On3"
803/807's led me to check the ones I have. True, the box is marked
"On3-S" on the bottom, and the the 803/807 pin is just ever so slightly
longer and a different color...grey rather than the ugly bronze of the
802/808. I had been painting these pins flat black anyways. The On3 pin
isn't as obtrusive, IMO.
On the comparison to the HO #5's that so many like to use, what no
one has mentioned as a drawback to using the HO coupler is the coupled
distance between cars. They are just too closely spaced with them.
Typical, non cushioned car, spacing end of car to end of car is 3', with
two cars equipped with the HO #5's its closer to 2' 6". Not a big deal
you all say? I can tell you from experience having coupled many air
hoses on the prototype, that extra 6" can mean a lot! For our models
however, appearances are improved if you are striving for the
prototypical look.
Now, for anyone wanting to dispute that 6 S scale inches isn't a big
deal, lets bring up the rail code/height discussion again....on second
thought lets not!
                                                             Just my 22
cents worth,
                                                                Bud
