I have added a folder to the Photo section titled "Compromise Joints" with
photographs of three types of rail joints in Gibson, Tennessee on the CSX
Memphis Line. The compromise plate was replaced with the welded joint with
yellow paint. The last photo of welded joint without paint was there at same
time as plate - at other end of a rail section. Note the difference in rail
head width at plate joint. The 115# rail is stamped TENN for Tennessee Coal
& Iron and is dated 1955. Most of the 132# rail is stamped US and dates from
1960s. L&N first laid welded rail on this line in 1957, so I suppose -and
hope - that the 1955 rail is from that time.
