I am having trouble painting tie plates. I bought them from Tomalco,
they are cast by Smokey Mountain Model Works. I tried Floquil with an
airbrush - it rubs off. I tried PollyScale with an airbrush, first
thinned with distilled water, then straight from the bottle, then
thinned with alcohol - in all cases the paint balls up on the tie
plates and leaves voids, although when dry it doesn't rub off. I tried
spraying them with enamel from a can - it rubs off. I tried Floquil
with a sable brush - it rubs off.

The plates are cast in a pink / mauve resin. I think it is the same as
used in the cars. Any suggestions? For frame of reference, I am an
experienced airbrush painter, so it probably won't help to give me
general suggestions on how to use an airbrush properly. I have some
Star paints, and some Scalecoat II yet to try, but this is getting
kind of tedious.
