Hi Guys, I have been laboring on at the ole puter here. I am very happy with the progress I have made in only 2 weeks at CAD school. I was designing trains things on day 3!
Anyway, here is the latest version of the yard track diagram for my new modules. The DWG to PDF conversion could have been better but if you zoom the PDF to 150 to 200%+ you can see what I am doing. http://www.lanestrains.com/Layout_Design.PDF I think it is reasonably to scale, but is definitely not perfect by any means. I was hoping to have #6 minimum everywhere but some #5 may have to be used, particularly in the first section on the left with 5 turnouts in a row. Some 3 way turnouts would help but I have never se en that on the Mighty Pennsy so you won't see it here either. The plan current shows a turnout over a section joint, but that should be fixed with the use of #5 turnouts. If you saw my old yard it is almost completely symmetrical. I did not want that here. There is a caboose (Or Cabin Car) track in the lower left and a 2 stall engine house in the lower right if it really fits. I have 2 pr of code 125 # 10 coming that I might try for 2 mainline crossovers if I have room. My main design feature is that if I can add sections between the existing sections it will mostly increase the yard storage and yard lead. I may make some new corner modules that will have 3 tracks so the lead will be even longer. If you are still reading I guess I am hoping for a few "it is not bad for the space you have" replies, or even a few minor revision suggestions. I have read some of the yard design websites. They have good advice, but you really need to be wider then what I have here to be able make the advice work IMHO. I really like what I have here though. I have tried pretty hard to envision the usage scenarios. There is a caboose runaround near the caboose track. If I put another turnout on the engine house lead I would have a slightly longer caboose track, but no caboose runaround there. I may have too many leading point turnouts for some, but I believe in right hand running.
