Dear Other Brother, oops I mean, Dear Other Ed, There are some of us who like the realism of scale but also like the best of the operating accessories. As an example, I would love to have a mail pick-up RPO car built into an AM RPO car whether it was a Budd or a Heavyweight. It would not make the car scale, but it would let the accessory car blend into the scale train nicely and add some fun. I am not a young kid, but I guess I still am a kid (just not young). Another example of what might be more acceptable to the true blue scalers would be flickering campfires near the creek where the fishermen are fishing underneath the train trestle. Now this could make a scale scene look even more realistic. There are some accessories that are not going to look good on any layout, like the cow on the track but its still fun for the kids as you mentioned, but not what I would like on my layout. Its nice that we can do what we want on our layouts. I would love to see all the true blue scale layouts that do not have any accessories. But the ones with some carefully selected and integrated accessories might be even better. Of course one modeler might define a mechanism as a scale accessory and another define it as a toy accessory. Which definition would fit a detailed track signal from NJI or something comparable? Which definition would fit an AF semaphore ? I am simply expressing my opinions and preferences, no better than yours. - Earl Henry, Nashville In a message dated 11/26/2007 10:59:17 AM Central Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
I couldn't care less whether Hi-railers use AF or scale couplers. Why does anyone care whether scalers have automated accessories on their individual layouts? What am I missing? The other Ed...
