Hi Bill....

Interestingly, after all the messages about who has what operating
accessories, it appears to me that this is "old stuff" to many
folks. I might conclude that those who want realistic operating
accessories have already built them. Those who have no interest are
actively doing other things. So what is the problem here? Sounds
about normal to me.

Perhaps the thought behind all this is to encourage some manufacturer
to produce a kit or RTR product to fill the need/want for some sort
of accessory device. Interesting thought. I wonder if that might be
like asking "what do you want" to 20 S scale guys and getting 23
answers because three of 'em changed their minds in midstream?

On the other hand, maybe there is a pent up demand out there that has
not expressed itself out of fear of being laughed at. Interesting to
speculate on the possibilities.....

A few years ago, there was a large operating crane available in HO.
It was controlled via DCC and the cab could rotate, raise/lower boom,
raise/lower hook or magnet, and turn magnet on/off. It was clearly
large enough to be usable on an S layout. I think it was made by
Maerklin, but do not remember for sure. But it was rather complex
and kind of European in appearance. But it would have done the job
at the dockside loading/unloading ships, or a scrap metal yard, or
something similar. This product was essentially RTR, but might have
needed some cosmetic modifications to Americanize it and tone down
the shiny plastic. Weathering never hurts. Good place to start if
you have an interest in operating accessories.

Cheers....Ed L.
