I don't understand all the contention about operating accessories. They can add
a lot of ambiance to any layout. Thou a rivet counter, I am currently working
on an operating out-house. The little man exits his back door sears catalogue
in hand and enters the outhouse. I am currently working on programming a dcc
sound unit to add to the realism. What we need in this hobby is less contention
and more creativity.

Folks my contention is that if you do a good job on scenery you don't need
operating accessories.
Visitors look at the layout and their minds do the rest.
Most important is that the trains run and operate prototypically.
Once again, we have a layout operating at the Derry Township Historical Society
for the Christmas Season..
All around the layout are buttons for the kids to push to see operating
accessories work and horns to blow! They love it!
Thus we excite the children and Mom and Pop go and buy a train set for them.
Unfortunately, most likely they buy Lionel sets.
I'm on the spot myself. Most likely we'll be buying a starter set this year for
our grandson.
What do I purchase? Most likely it will be the SHS Frisco set. Mainly because
that will work later on when they inherit my scale model railroad equipment.
I gave out all my SHS catalogs and NASG Dispatches last year. American Models
have a catalog or brochures?
If someone would send me more I'll see that they are once again avaiable to our
guests.
