Last weekend I went to see Tom Stoltz, the inventor of the universal
turnout for S. And yes, it does accommodate Scale, Hi Rail and Flyer
flanges, even in the same consist.
We ran combinations of cars and flanges through the turnouts without
any problems or derailments with diesel and steam motive power (scale
brass, AM, and SHS. It was truly remarkable).
I have heard about the problem with scale trucks dropping at the frog.
This is true if you only push a truck through. In fact it is fairly
noticeable. The wheels dip but do not derail.
However, when running a string of cars, the tension between the cars
prevents the truck from dipping when run in either direction. If
there was a dip, my aging eyes couldn't pick it up.
I am very impressed with the quality and precision of his turnouts,
the stained wood ties, and the smoothness of the points. I found that
they mated nicely with AM and SHS track.
Now, Tom, any chance in some code 100 turnouts.
