Buddies? I settled on NCE, but it was not because of my buddies. It was because I could operate the NCE throttle with one hand. Other systems I tried required both hands. NCE leaves my other hand free to throw switches, to uncouple cars or to occasionally hold a refreshing beverage. And by "throttle" I mean the Power Cab paddle with the little screen and all the intimidating buttons. I give visitors a different throttle, one that is user friendly with a big speed knob and far fewer buttons. It can also be operated with one hand. Anecdote #1: Regarding DCC complexity, during the NASG Cleveland convention I visited a HO club that used DCC. I asked a member about all the decoder features and the ease of setting them up. He said all they did was install a decoder, give it the engine number, put the engine on the main line and run it! Thus, DCC can be very simple. Anecdote #2: I have a small 9 x 15 layout <http://www.wcroberts.org/modeltrains.htm >. Installing DCC was as simple as disconnecting the track wires from my DC throttle, connecting them to the DCC box and flipping the "on" switch. It just worked. (I guess my buddies were indeed available for tech support, but I did not have to call on them.) True, beforehand I had gone to the trouble of making my switches DCC-friendly. My friend Ed Loizeaux's position is that this is unnecessary. Anyway, apart from this I made no other modification to my layout. -- Bill Roberts Yahoo!
