Geez Ed,

Your explanation would have taken me 5 days to write with my dyslexia and
all. But it was VERY informative. Thanks a lot! You told me about NCE 100
years ago when all I knew about DCC was Digitrax. You were testing NCE I
think. I was NEVER going to get DCC because of the conversion expense. Well,
never can be only a few years!

Is short for me, getting my own NCE system negated any reason for me to want
to run any engine in DC or any engine with a decoder in DC mode. If I were
running a DC engine, it was while or just as I was about to put in a
decoder. So the fact that NCE systems (now thanks to Ed's wonderful
explanation) could not easily run an engine without a decoder was now a moot
point as well. Apparently the NCE designers figured the way the market was
going, or hopefully would go.

In reality, model trains today are by far not a child's or even a teenager's
hobby any more. We are all mostly 40+ with reasonable expendable income. Or
like me, never change my spending ways whether I can afford it of not, even
while being unemployed! I think my priorities are right on track! the
addition of a DCC system is a considerable investment, but it is just the
next turn of the evolution wheel

Thank You,
Bill Lane
