Effective tonight, my Sn2 WWF #7 is running on a DCC GoldMini with USP and
Soundtraxx sound.

I used the Soundtraxx DSX unit for the C-16, p/n 678-824216. It mounts flat
in the tank and is ACC'd to the floor. Mounted on top of it are the USP and the
GoldMini. The USP is inside the cab, as it is just a bit too tall for the
tank. This installation also required me to remove the backhead, as the DSX is
just a little bit too long for the tank otherwise. The capacitor for the DSX is
in the tank and the resistor of the headlight is mounted on the side of the
cab.

The speaker is a 3/4" round speaker, p/n SP-20R-08, mounted under the cab
roof in a half a SPENC-20R enclosure. (This is quivalent to SoundTraxx speaker
810053.) The enclosure was sanded to match the curve of the underside of the
roof, to get it to nestle up into the roof. The result is that the speaker is
barely visible from the side. You can see the enclosure from the rear, but a
rolled-up weather curtain would hide it completely.

This speaker gives a great sound -- much better than the 3/8" speaker in my
Sn2 0-4-4T #3.

Now here is the embarrassing part. The GoldMini has three little pads that
are used to solder the tiny wires from the USP. On the other side of the
GoldMini are three little capacitors that look like little pads to which you
might
solder wires. Do not make this mistake. It will cost you about a $100 in fried
electronics. Carefully compare both sides of the GoldMini to the documentation.
The right side looks exactly like the documentation . . . once you realize
the little thing actually has two sides.

In other news, this looooong wheelbase 2-4-4T is much less tolerant of frost
kinks in the track than is the little 0-4-4T. I have to get the track gang
busy on a couple of places.

By the way, I strongly recommend Litchfield Station www.litchfieldstation.com
as a source for DCC parts and advice. I find I can order on-line Sunday or
Monday evening and have it here by mail in time for the work the following
weekend. They were very helpful in sorting out with me by email what I had done
to
the GoldMini.

More DCC news as it happens. Now I have two DCC locos running for the Sn2
modular setup at Greenford.
