All --
I just got home after two weeks away and finished reviewing this e-list's
postings. I am really surprised by the negatives about Florida weather. I
grew up in the Northeast, and I can tell you there is no difference between 95
degrees and 90 percent humidity whether it is in New Jersey or Florida. And
it's usually 95 degrees and 90 percent humidity in New Jersey (NY, Ohio,
Virginia, and others as well) in the summer.
Furthermore, the proposed O/S Florida convention is in November (right?), when
you can expect temperate weather -- better than the dreary cold rain of the
Northwest, or the snows in New England and Minnesota.
My wife and I spent eight days in Florida about two years ago, in April. We
drove down the Gulf Coast (from Alabama), then out to Key West, then up the
Atlantic coast, stopping at various points of interest. We avoided freeways,
turnpikes, and theme parks. Loved it. We were never hot, never drippy from
humidity.
Among the railroady things we saw were a Florida East Coast caboose in a field
in Florida City and the many old FEC concrete bridges linking the Keys, some
still used by US 1, others used as looooong driveways to single-home islets,
others abandoned.
