Hi Guys,

In my BD (Before Donna) days, I built my first yard module starting in about
1990. It is 24" x 20 feet long, 19 turnouts and 8 tracks wide. It is
entirely hand laid and was the black hole for time consumption. My thoughts
back in the day were in I snagged a rail during transport I could repair it.
I did have a Kadee spiker which was used throughout, but was a VERY
persnickety beast. On good days you could do well with good progress. On bad
days you wanted to throw the thing as far as possible. Perhaps the rail
profiles were not the same as the machine was designed for making it misfire
about 3 million times and not drive down tight. I had the code 100 parts
installed using code 100 rail.

I swore that after it was done I would NEVER hand lay track again. I sold
the Spiker about 5 years after the modules were done on eBay. They still
bring a hefty price when you see them listed.

I have noted that I am in the beginning of making a new yard module. This
time I am using SHS flex for the mainlines and Tomalco code 100 for
everything else. I guess when this yard is done I can say which I thought
was better. I have not been previously involved in putting RTR S track down
yet.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
