"S"peaking of raffles, have you heard this one:

Many years ago, a train club near Boston was hosting a convention and
decided to raffle off a brass engine as a money raising event. They
sold 500 tickets at $5 each for a slightly used GS-4 brass locomotive
imported by Overland Models and custom painted very nicely. The
raffle winner, a gentlemen we shall simply call "John", was very
curious as to how this loco would run since he had not seen any brass
engines since about 1975 and even that was in HO which was known as
a "less-than" size. Wellsir, John took his newly won brass engine
home and soon discovered that it didn't run very well -- especially
on the curves. He complained loudly to the Boston club and the club
promptly refunded his $5 raffle ticket fee and took back the loco.
In the end, everyone was happy: the club earned just short of $2,500
and John did not have to live with a bad running locomotive and
nobody else had a clue as to what had happened. No need to even ask
what happened to the GS-4. It does not matter anymore. The moral of
this fable is: "Don't waffle on the raffle or you might get
baffled!"

Hope y'all kin take a joke. Cheers...Ed L.
