Why didn't they let Union Pacific take over everything? :) ----- Original Message ----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2008 4:11 PM Subject: Re: {S-Scale List} What Have I done (about Penn Central bankruptcy)
Jim, we will give you a second chance to give a little more balanced view. Like how the former Pinnzi (did I spell that right?) CEO structured the management chain of command so that a NYC manager would always report to a Pinnzi superior. I think the points you made were pretty accurate based on the report that Fortune magazine wrote a few months following the bankruptcy. I remember another one of several crippling points that Fortune made was the financial drain of the New Haven, which of course Pinnzi Central did not want. The New Haven passenger losses were so huge but takeover of the New Haven was forced on Pinnzi Central as a condition of approval of the merger. Of course, the bankruptcy could have been avoided if PC had simply applied lightning stripes to all of the motive power. I think it was Ed Loizeaux who told me that. - Earl Henry, Nashville In a message dated 8/7/2008 3:16:09 P.M.
