  I think the points you made were pretty accurate based on the report that 
  Fortune magazine wrote a few months following the bankruptcy. I remember 
  another one of several crippling points that Fortune made was the financial 
drain 
  of the New Haven, which of course Pinnzi Central did not want. The New Haven 
  passenger losses were so huge but takeover of the New Haven was forced on 
  Pinnzi Central as a condition of approval of the merger. 

  Of course, the bankruptcy could have been avoided if PC had simply applied 
  lightning stripes to all of the motive power. I think it was Ed Loizeaux who 
  told me that.
