A free e-zine for the exchange of model railroading ideas sounds like
a great idea. Their "lean, mean, and green" hook to get you to stop
getting paper magazines like Model Railroader or S Gaugian throws me
though. I model trains because I love them and want to escape the
worries of the world. I do not think my hobby and politics should
mix (unless it is about things like how it should had been the
Missouri Pacific taking over the Union Pacific and not vice versa).
When a selling point is that the evil timber and toxic ink companies
will suffer because I stop buying paper magazines then I am instantly
turned off. If you think about it, our hobby is not the most
environmentally friendly hobby to begin with. From our bench work
(poor trees) to custom painting (more toxic ink) we do many things
that would make a worried liberal cringe. Unless you have a solar
panel attached to your layout I guess the model railroading community
is helping "big power" with their coal power plants. Hmmm......pulp
wood, paper, ink, and coal; all major commodities that our prototype
lines carry. Ironic isn't it? When I run my pike I want to imagine
my beloved MoPac making a run through Warrensburg, Mo from Sedalia,
not my "carbon footprint" that I may be leaving. Guess I will be
skipping the e-zine and sticking with my big bad corporate paper
magazines.

Some of you guys might know about this or maybe not, but I stumbled
across it on the Atlas O discussion board.
