Hi All, Here is my brief convention report....
First, I will for a limited time offer up my entire convention photo and video file here: http://www.lanestrains.com/NASG_2008.zip NOTE! As of 6:50 PM on Monday 8-11 it still has approximately 6 hours to go to complete the upload. It is not for the faint at heart as the file is 3.5 GB! You need a zip program once you are done the download. If it does not work for you I am sorry. Try another computer with high speed internet We went for the entire week. There was nothing that Doug Peck and the Bristol Club could have possibly done to make the convention any better. My few nits to pick were more hotel related, but seem to be a constant when dealing with large conventions The hotel restaurant had pretty good food at a reasonable price but was dreadfully understaffed. A salad and 2 sandwiches for 3 people took 1 1/2 hours. I saw a couple a few table away leave after ordering and could not wait any more. I think they went on a layout tour. 1 minute later their food arrived. The 2 ladies that were also waiting a long time at the table next to us could not take it any more and took THAT food instead! We were plainly told to not order from the menu but to get the ongoing buffets because it would take too long to get served. There was 1 waitress that was carrying the whole room. I felt sorry for her as the other staff wandered aimlessly. A hotel of that size and stature should not be charging $10.00 per day for an in room internet connection, especially since we bought the joint out for the week. Further, the port to connect Outlook was blocked in the free internet lobby area so I had to use my very clunky webmail. I know of computer professionals that are NEVER off line that did not pay the $10.00 per day. This is not the 1990s connecting to AOL... There were only 3 luggage carts. Donna was stalking people for their cart on check out. Other people followed here to get it as soon as we were done. Plusses and Kudos to the Bristol Club The bar has been significantly raised for the yearly tote bag. This year the bag that was given out was almost a laptop bag. These were the nicest name tag badge holders I have ever seen. They had a back pocket for the tour tickets. The raffle during the banquet featured putting the tickets in a jar next to the item you really wanted as opposed to getting whatever was the nicest item left on the table when you won. That was excellent as far as I was concerned. There were 2 major convention announcements. River Raisin debuted their next project, a N&W J1 Michael; Greene announced that he and his wife agreed to buy Pine Canyon Models http://www.pinecanyonmodels.com from Keith Blanchard. All in all another great convention in the books....
