I attended the 1968 NESGA convention at the Old Coach Inn, Nashua, N.H. (with
John Long) At that time John was a S scale guy and I was converting from a
American Flyer collector to scale.
This was a great convention, especially for two newbie's like John and myself.
I remember Howard Phillips and another person (whom [perhaps] I thought was
Howard Sandusky ?) were showing their S&P Mogul and future variations of it.
What I remember most about Howard Phillips was his excellent models of a S
scale work train. WOW!
I also remember Howard Phillips had a model of their projected S&P 2-8-0
[that never was produced, most likely because of Howards early death.]
I'm going to go through my "Slide" file and see if I have more photos of the
attendees. I do have one image in front of me now; it has Walter Graeff, Ernie
Geisler, Gene Fletcher, Leonard Giovannoli, and Hal Bortz standing in front of
a new Cadillac.
We also had a great tour of Northeastern's Scale Models plant and a tour of Tom
Coughlin's home layout. His Cleveland Models Consolidation ran perfectly, one
would have never guessed that it was metal and wood. Not sure, but seems I
wrote on this locomotive for the NMRA Bulletin (S SCALE RAILS) some years ago.
Yes, it still runs perfectly, all these years later. Tom was quite a mechanic
and a wonderrful person.
For some reason, I don't remember the "Beadle" guy being there.
I can also tell you this ... They served Filet Mignon at the banquet!
"S"ee Ya,
Billy Fraley
