Hi All,

I have what I think is a Locomotive Workshop RS1. It is most likely formally
Larry Sokol's engine given I bought it from the same person that was offing
all of Larry's S stuff a few years ago.

I can't imagine there are many of them running around. They were flat etched
sheet kits if I am not mistaken. The builder of this engine did a reasonable
job. It runs OK, but not excellent in the slow speed. I think changing the U
joints might help the 0-20 starts. You can slow it down a little once it
gets moving. When I first got it, I had plans for a massive rebuild with a
new dive and detail makeover. After spending a few days with it more
recently, I am now not as sure. It has a NCE decoder in it with new lights
for now. It might still get done, but I have LOTS of other things to work
on. There are lots of things that would need correcting. It mike be up for a
new paint job at some point. I have to make an antennas system for it, but I
will probably do that anyway if SHS or someone else makes 1.

If you ever get a chance to see 1 up close there are some interesting design
features, the best being the "telescoping wheelbase" and equalizing truck
gear set up. It is simplistic and free rolling all at the same time. I
switched the wheels around on 1 truck, cut grooves on the backs of 4 wheels
and made pickups for the insulated side. That should make running a lot
better. The motor is mounted high in the center of the shell with a plastic
chain down to the truck level.

I will post photos on my Diesels page when I get a chance...

Thank You,
Bill Lane
