I'm with you.  I am about to run out of 802s and will return to KADEE #5s.  I 
find them actually quite close in scale to S and that they look oversized on HO 
cars.  In addition, every hobby shop has them, something that cannot be said 
for the 802s or 808s or whatever.

HO Kadee's do NOT require longer trip pins with the uncoupling ramps I
have placed photos of in the "Files" section, under "Bob Nicholson". I
suggest you look at them. They are reliable, inexpensive, and require
NO coupler modification.
