Each week, in the Sunday edition of our local rag, Michael's has a paid
insert that includes either a 40% or 50% off coupon on one fully-priced item.
I'm sure a goodly number of Sunday papers across the US contain the same sale
insert. I religiously cut out the coupon and sometime during the following
week, visit Michael's and buy, with the coupon, a can of Testors Dullcote. I
use a lot of Dullcote so even if my cache nears being a stockpile, I know
sooner or later, I'll use it all.

Yesterday, during my weekly Michael's visit, I noticed they are now
carrying a line of scenic decorations such as rock molds, trees, "water",
ground cover, etc. These are branded as Scene-A-Rama. These items are similar
to those offered by Woodland Scenics. I see this as a great way to acquire some
layout decos using the 40% or 50% coupon once my Dullcote supply is sufficient.

Along the same line, while in Ace Hdwr. the other day I noticed a new
Rust-Oleum rattle-can product called Frosted Glass. Remembering what Dullcote
does to clear styrene, I reasoned that this Frosted Glass might represent
something more cost-effective than Dullcote. I bought a can. I sprayed a couple
of old AF cabeese with some Ace Banner Red, which, by the way, is an exact
match for Santa Fe Warbonnet Red, and let the paint dry. I sprayed one car with
Dullcote and the other with the Frosted Glass. The Frosted Glass, in my
opinion, performed nearly as well as the Dullcote on a glossy plastic finish. I
have yet to try this on styrene, brass, basswood, plywood, or resin. If someone
else is so inclined, I wish they'd perform the same experiment so we can get a
second, third, fourth, etc. opinion. The Frosted Glass, in a large rattle-can,
is much less per ounce than Dullcote and would make the Michael's coupon
available for other stuff such as scenery or Aleene's Tacky Glue.
