Brian,
If you have access to "RDG Color Guide to Freight and Passenger
Equipment" by Craig T. Bossler, prototype color pictures of the BXmu
express car in greeen is on page 6 and the XMu boxcar in red is on page
68. According to the captions, Reading had 2000 of the XMu's from four
different builders, not all had panel doors. As many as 25 of the XMu's
were modified for express passenger service and reclassified BXmu.
Interestingly, 10 of the BXmu's were sold to the PRR and reclassified
X29r. Surely Bill Lane has at least one painted accordingly.
Jettie, (Southwind), had some painted for sale at conventions. I
purchased one that was painted in B&O Timesaver scheme. I do not know if
the B&O had this same type car on their roster. I also have one in RDG
freight colors but I don't remember who painted it.
Passenger train modelers, especially mail/express trains, could have one
of the BXmu's on their roster as it would be possible that one could
show up on virtually any such train across the country. At least until
sometime in 1963 when they were no longer rostered by RDG in this service.
