I just returned from another great gathering at the annual Carmel, IN S scale
show. Charles and the gang had what I consider the best show yet.

Some impressions I had. The clinic area was removed and Tom Hawley and his
gang from Michigan Models was able to take that space and spread out more. DPH
had some nice looking modern stuff, as did Tom - I looked but ran away before
I'd buy something not even remotely close to my era (Smokey Mountain's
waffle-sided car was also very tempting). That left more room in the other
room for a larger module setup and more vendors. Des Plaines and River Raisin
were both there. I tried to interest Dan in another run of 44 tonners by
committing to one and a possible second one, but he didn't bite (I'm sure he
might be interested if another 100 or so commitments came in! <vbg>). I forgot
my decal wish/want list, so didn't pick up any of the DPH decals - there were
at least 3 good sized boxes of decals there. Jay Williams and another vendor
[Big Four Graphics? - sounds too close to Jay's business name, but that is what
I thought the sign said] had photos for sale, and I left with more photos from
Jay than I had planned on. A new vendor, Old Motor Trucks, from Zeeland, MI
was there, and he lightened my wallet for some of his truck [vehicle] kits.
Several individuals also had items for sale, and if I overlooked any
businesses, I apologize. I'll let Charles or one of the club members mention
who gave gifts, as I'm sure I'll overlook several.

There were some very nice electronic work on the club module. I liked the
lights in vehicles, but was most impressed by the smoke coming out of the car
engine. Best of all, it was subtle, and you'd tend to catch it out of the
corner of your eye - it definitely did not overpower you. Nice job. There was
also an intermodal train running on it that seemed to be quite popular.

Alan Evans had the NASG module there but I didn't have time to work it, or even
much time to talk to him.

Even though it was spread out more this year, it appeared to be more crowded
than over. I hope this was because attendance was way up. Hopefully it was
worth the vendors time, as there did seem to be a lot of browsers of their
merchandise.

Next year, the meet will be held earlier (10/10 I think), so it will be
interesting to see what differences that makes in attendance. I'll likely have
a problem making it (sectional soccer tournament - a son plays and I
officiate), but I hope it works out from our end.
