Teejay, 10.5 is tight, I do not think any of my chassis can be modified for that radius.

Hi All: I just joined the group. I have very limited space and so I am planning a modern era steel mill switching S-gauge layout in a space of 24" by 60" with concealed turning loops at each end. I would like to run a medium size 4 axle switcher either Alco S2/S4, EMD SW7/8/9, or Baldwin S12 on the 10.5" radius curves. I have the following questions: 1. How can S-helper, American Models, Rail Master or Hollywood Foundry mechanisms of this size be modified to work with 10.5" radii? 2. Which of these types has the better chance of working when being modified for 10.5" radii? I do not yet own these mechanisms and so cannot examine them up close. As a minimum I think couplers will need to be talgo mounted and the coupler opening enlarged to accommodate a larger swing. Changes may also need to be made to the chassis so that trucks have greater turning freedom. Any ideas or experience you can share? Teejay Denver, CO ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
