Gents...
Found a stash of an oldie, but goodie. Gen-u-whine S Scale Locomotive &
Supply heavyweight brass trucks complete with real springs and wheelsets
from good old Claud Wade. Here is a quote from the SSLS catalog Third
Edition Blue Book:
"COMMONWEALTH (PULLMAN STANDARD) 6 WHEEL TRUCKS, Very good sprung and
equalized trucks with rigid insulated fibre bolster. <snip> These trucks
were chosen for use on last of light cars, or file off side frame rivets and
remove end braces at the brake shoes for use as a cast steel truck, as used
on heavy cars, -- right on up to modern cars. It is an extremely versatile
truck with every nut and rivet detail. <snip> You will have to see this
truck in operation to appreciate it's beauty and extreme smooth operation,
gliding over the rails..."
Believe it or not, I have one dozen (12, count 'em) mint, new, unused, etc.
of these trucks complete with real springs and wheels. And....I am offering
them to the guys/gals on this list first before heading down the eBay route.
"How much", you ask? Wellsir, my Revised Price List dated July 9, 1990
shows them listed at $30.50 per pair. But I think this was back in the days
when Bob Hartzell owned the company and I am not sure he actually made any
or sold any during his tenure. The fog of history shrouds the price and
value of these trucks -- at least in my brain cells. I have never seen
these offered on eBay and so I do not have any basis for establishing a
price.
I can say that it takes some work to file the flash off and assemble them.
They are not RTR, but once properly assembled, they run like a charm being
fully equalized and sprung with real springs. Olde tymers like Dick Karnes
and Rusty "brass bashing" Rustermier and others will undoubtedly have
memories of these trucks -- hopefully good memories.
Back to the price, I have no idea what they are worth. So make me an offer
and, if I like it, I will accept it. One pair or all twelve pair -- makes
no difference to me. Highest acceptable price (plus postage) gets first
choice. If'n I don't yer offer, I will head on down to the depot and get on
the next train rolling toward eBay. Fair enough?
Thanks...Ed L.
