One-of-a-kind model train available to the not-too-discerning modeler. Four
cars in this train -- one baggage, one RPO, one combine and one observation.
Baggage and RPO are 13" long. Combine and observation are 15-1/4" long --
give or take just a little bit. AF bodies and floors spliced for the longer
cars. Kadee HO couplers installed, but can be removed. No trucks (already
sold off to a southern gentleman). Tapped #6 threaded hole lets you mount
trucks of your choice. Underbody detailing better than AF, but not fully up
to today's standards. No air lines at all, but several tanks, battery
boxes, cylinders, reservoirs, etc. Painted Pullman Green with gold New York
Central lettering. Black roof and underbody. Sockets on bottom for
recharging batteries used for interior lights. Just plug in a voltage
source and recharge without taking anything apart. This was considered
"high tech" in the late '60s. Many roof ribs added to clerestory roof.
Ribs are made from thin styrene strips and a couple are missing.
Strips/ribs could be glued back on easily. Handrails on ends and sides
where appropriate (cheap glue). While not much to brag about in these days
of highly detailed injection molded plastic cars and exquisite imported
brass models, they will exactly match any other AF cars you might be
operating. Their length is longer (fact) and they are more impressive
(opinion). Believe it or not, this entire train won the "Best in Class"
award in the amateur category at the NASG annual convention in Chicago back
in the mid-1970s. While the rivet-counting scale purist would scoff at this
train, the average hi-rail enthusiast should find it quite acceptable. Easy
to work on if you want to add details. The typical AF purist might not like
it because it is not pure mint genuine ACGilbert. If you have a serious
interest, let me know OFF LIST and I will take some photos and send them to
you. Highest offer over $100 gets 'em. Could someone please forward this
message on to the S-trains list since I do not follow AF conversations. Let
me know of your interest and we will work something out. Thanks....Ed
