Hi All, I have said many times that Scalecoat is my paint for car color. I mostly use Floquil for weathering only. I have 30+ bottles of Scalecoat on hand at all times. I mark the purchase date in the bottles. I have occasionally had a brand new bottle of Scalecoat be unusable. It actually happened when I went to pick up a special ordered color. I never left the store with it.
But I have used 3+ year old bottles of Scalecoat without any issues. The biggest issue with Scalecoat is opening the bottle. Once you open the bottle you have a precious few HOURS to use the bottle before it starts to change. You will not get the same excellent results with a bottle opened once, even the next day. I try to plan my painting and batch cars to use the bottle completely straight though without stopping. That equates to about 10) X29. Ask me how I know... If I can use the bottle completely the paint will be truly excellent and very glossy.
