This is an historical item and not S Scale. Also, the second part has some
political overtones so I will understand if the moderator blocks it. However,
I thought you good folks might be entertained.

This is directly from the November 1936 issue of The Model Craftsman, page 50:

BEWARE!
We have been told that members of a certain club are importing railroad
equipment made in Japan by low wage laborers to compete with American
manufacturers.

In the first place, a club is supposed to be a non-profit organization and
we do not believe that they can enter into commercial transactions and retain
the sympathy of the model fraternity.

In the second place, we know that American manufacturers are doing their
utmost to turn out better merchandise at lower prices, and we believe that
Japanese competition might prove serious, if not a disastrous, setback, to
American modelmaking.

We must buy American products to keep Americans employed so they in turn
can buy American made goods. We cannot compete with Japanese labor at an
average of 20 cents per day. Money spent for such products goes out of the
country and deprives American manufacturers of additional revenue that they
need in order to give us better products at reasonable prices.

Again, please note I am sending this with no axe to grind; just as an
historical footnote to our hobby. And remember, this was written in 1936!

regards ... pqr
