During the summer of 1962 I worked at the take-out counter of an ice
cream joint in Springield, MASS. The company gave me a large name tag
that said "ED" and I had to wear it on my pocket when on duty scooping
cones and making sundaes. Needless to say, the horse-oriented nickname
soon became popular and kids actually brought in their friends to meet
Mr. Ed. No, I didn't whinney, but I thought about it. Figured the
management would not approve and I needed the job. So for one summer
in Springfield, Mass I really was Mr. Ed known to all kids within a
four block radius. True... Neigh....Ed L.

PS: I traveled on the NYC back to Albany to visit with my girlfriend,
later wife, on the weekends. Nice ride, but I was in HO at the time.
