Hi All,

This is a story of 2 recent eBay wins with a very happy ending. As some of
you may remember my good friend Gus Minardi is a true modeling genius when
working with the S Scale Aurora plastic truck models C 1960s. He made a red
Texaco gas tanker with a White cabover 3000 tractor a few years back.

Recently he pointed out the rarest Aurora model to me as an eBay listing,
the Ford tractor with the flatbed with the excavator. He sort of follows
them and mentioned they usually go for big $$ especially if they are not
assembled. This model was assembled. I bid what I thought was low but still
won. A week later I found a loose van trailer and tanker, also assembled. I
won those too.

I gave them to Gus shortly after Halloween. On Christmas Eve he got Donna to
pick them up and slip them under our tree.
http://www.lanestrains.com/Santa_Gus.jpg At about 9:00 PM on Christmas Eve,
I wanted to run my fabulous new S Helper Service Tsunami equipped NW2. That
is when I noticed them. It knocked me out! I am truly lucky to have such
great and talented friends. I am going to put the Cooper Jarrett trailer on
my F39 on my display shelf. There might be a bridge clearance issue with the
excavator but it still looks great!

Speaking of F39, as previously mentioned the new issue of the PRR T &HS
Keystone Modeler is solely devoted Gus' trailers and stunning F30 TOFC flat
cars. http://www.prrths.com/Keystone%20Modeler/Keystone_Modeler.htm I did
the photography. Perhaps you would like to join the PRR T &HS, or donate to
support The Keystone Modeler. I did pretty well last year in getting new
bodies to join. I am a bit behind this year. Save my quota!

Finally, I thought I would pass along my "secret" about photographing my
models. Since my real studio is 3 miles away at my Pop's house, I am not
running over there for every little model photo or project in progress photo
I want to take. It is real tough. I got 2 pieces of white foamcore board. I
flop 1 down on my bed and prop the other 1 up vertically with any heavy box
etc. I use a Vivitar 285 flash point almost vertically with a piece of white
cardstock wrapped in a U shape around the flash head for forward bounce.
(Built in camera flashes are generally not powerful enough to pull this off)
BAM, a quick n dirty instant model studio that takes 1 minute to set up and
costs $3.00. I jack the flash to HIGH with the camera set to F8. I usually
get something good. It seems to blow out the white background leaving the
model to stand out and almost levitate.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
