Once read a description of a solid train of coal as a swift, mean
snake. First comes the roar of the lead engines then the earth
pounding march of the cars often with squealing of flanges against
rails and if your at a crossing the bam-bam-bam sound as this powerful
monster rushes past ending with the roar of the pushers. Maybe it's
different in flatlands.
