One of my 'operating' friends uses regular rubber erasers on the tracks 
to hold cars from drifting away after uncoupling.  Another friend plants 
some weeds in the middle of the track to stop the cars.  Still another 
uses a short piece of music wire on a bell crank arrangement that works 
the best.  His is operated with a rod but he (and I) will do more remote 
ones using a Tortoise switch machine.  So a DP toggle should control it 
correctly with a red LED as an indicator not to run a train into it 
while in the up/stop position. 

All this wasn't necessary when we only had Ace and Kinsman trucks that 
would hold to most gentle grades.  Now most cars will roll to the lowest 
point on the layout--sometimes 20 feet away. 

What I haven't dealt with yet is the amount of throw of the Tortoise vs 
the distance to catch a axle.
