The NYC System purchased 183 of the USRA light 2-8-2 locos, class H-6a. These
numbers were reduced to 144 shortly after acquisition because of lopping off
subsidiary LE&W and selling the IHB Mikes. NYC had 84, Big Four 25, MC 20,
T&OC 15. 134 were still in service in 1951.
The NYC never "New York Centralized" these locos, retaining them in their
original as-delivered configurations until the bitter end. They are unique in
this respect. From photo evidence, the only thing I did to my Oberland Model,
besides painting and lettering it, was to rotate the whistle to a vertical
position.
