I became interested in narrow gauge in the mid-70's while I was in my early
20's, and after growing up with AF, like the size of Sn3. So I bought some
Tomalco and RGM Sn3 kits and a Tomalco/PFM 2-8-0, which was my start into
the S scale other than AF. The S standard gauge came later after I wanted
some rolling stock for a (non-operating) standard gauge interchange on a Sn3
layout. Since then I've accumulated more standard gauge equipment, so this
time it is operational, but the emphasis is still on narrow gauge.

Subject: {S-Scale List} S scale your first choice?

Hey y'all,

With all the talk about American Models being the Athearn Blue Box
equivalent and the need to introduce new modelers to S scale, I'm wondering
how many folks on this list got their start in S scale model railroading?
I'm particularly interested in the responses of those who have operating S
scale layouts. And what I mean is that the first SCALE model train you
bought was 1:64 proportions (Flyer as a kid doesn't count).

My guess is that S scale was a secondary scale modeling choice for many of
us. If that's the case, shouldn't our product lines appeal more to the
experienced modeler than the newbie?

Stirring the pot,
