Norton and Northern Railroad announced the arrival of new fleet of 20 Evans 40
ft outside post 70 ton cars intended for their supporting transportation roll
at the Holston Arsenal. The new cars will be replacing the long serving 40 ft
ARA rebuilt cars purchased from the Santa Fe railroad in 1952 and refurbished
in the Norton shops. The new cars, road numbers 4230 thru 4249, replace cars
2250 thru 2275. The railroad is anticipating greater operating efficiencies
with these cars because of the higher weight limits will allow for full
utilization of the cars interior capacity. (photos of these cars appear in the
