I found that a small buck boot transformer worked well when I made
mine. Went a little overboard but it works great as long as I remember
to drop the voltage down.

I used a 500 watt buck boost, wired for 120 v in 6 v out delivering a
max of 90 amps at 6 volts. I also use a dimmer switch to lower the
voltage and always start low. With 6 v and 90 amps you can easily
vaporize small details on an engine. Fortunately the parts were
available when I did my stupid and got a lecture from SSLS in the process.

If I had it to do over I would probably looks for something in the
200-300 watt range max.

I have yet to find something I can't solder with this.
