After a couple of chilly days, we had a great weekend up here in the tundra.
Model railroading wise, I visited Dave Hamilton on Tuesday night for his
monthly operating session. He had a good turnout of regulars and most of the
jobs filled up quite quickly so I slid away to the S Scale layout and proceeded
to operating that. Dave has a wonderful industrial switching layout in S, his
car cards are complete but he has not started any formal operations. I took
that as an opportunity to move cars in and out assigning them to industry by
road name or color. Dave has a particularly complex section of the layout that
features a double slip switch and a couple of diamonds. This area works
nicely, he has a Hex Frog Juicer in this area and that simplifies wiring quite
a bit.
Thursday, the PPSSW visited Jeff Saine where he told us he planned on tearing
most of his layout down and making radical changes to how he wanted the layout
to work. He stopped over tonight and borrowed a map I had of the Duluth harbor
front from the 50's for some inspiration. I didn't see Steve Doyle this
weekend, last report had him strolling through the airport with a cute redhead
on his arm... heading on vacation so I doubt trains crossed his mind at all.
Progress on the Heartland has been slow because the nice weather has made it so
difficult to get into the basement. I did build another turnout this week so
Pine River is almost done. The final step being delayed as I consider a couple
of different options for the final industry. Oh well, there is always next
week.
Have a great week,
Ken Zieska
