Many years ago I was on a shoot in the Golden Triangle area shooting for 
Texaco.  When traveling from one chemical to another I came across a 
Holland rail welding outfit.  They were chopping off the worn end of 
jointed rail, welding it, taking up the concrete ties and replacing them 
with wooden ones.  This was on the KCS, which I think was one of the 
early users of concrete ties.  Apparently they weren't working out in 
this situation.
